Hello, I'm Nicholas Ward. I am an architectural designer from Seattle, WA who enjoys working collaboratively to create high-quality and engaging buildings. I have more than five years of experience in architecture, working on a variety of project types in all phases of design and construction. I am interested in the role architects can play in creating a more resilient and equitable built environment. Born and raised in Washington State, I have recently relocated to the Twin Cities and am excited for new challenges and opportunities in my career.Experience in Commercial Office:For more than four years, I worked on the design and construction of a high-rise commercial office tower for a tech client in downtown Seattle, WA. As a core member of the project team, I actively contributed to every phase of the project. Early in the project, I performed site context studies and developed design concepts. At this early stage of the project, my design was chosen by the team as the core design concept for the project. This concept would inform every future design decision for the project. As the project developed, I prepared presentation materials for client meetings, led coordination meetings with the consultant team, and coordinated project deliverables. Throughout construction, I reviewed shop drawings and RFIs, and worked with the general contractor and subcontractors to develop on-site solutions to problems in the field. As the project neared completion, I conducted punch walks to ensure the final product was constructed according to our standards. Experience in Retail:For the last year, I have designed and coordinated the construction of more than two dozen specialty retail stores in several jurisdictions across the country. In this role I have had the opportunity to work on several fast-paced projects at a time, through all phases of design and construction. I have conducted site survey reports, researching permitting and planning requirements in the jurisdiction. I have performed schematic design layouts for several stores, adapting our standard Revit template to different site conditions. I have coordinated with the client, and landlord to refine each store according to their design criteria. I have prepared permit and construction documents, and have performed construction administration for several projects.In my free time I enjoy running and biking around the city, hiking, and cross country skiing.
