Growing up, I learned to fix what’s broken instead of replacing and consuming. I’ve since taken this outlook and focused on solving the problems which arise from broken biological processes. To do so, I’m currently a PhD candidate using genome engineering in mouse models as a way to study testicular cancer.I use genetic engineering tools to solve problems and fill in knowledge gaps with existing models, as well as facilitate future research and development. As part of my thesis I used genetic engineering to find new ways to answer questions which we had previously struggled to approach. To facilitate these studies, I independently developed international collaborations, identified new techniques and tools useful for my research, and revised procedures to improve efficiency and yield.I’ve developed a passion in optimization, reducing waste, and saving costs at every step, from day-to-day protocols to large experiments, and I’m excited to transfer and cultivate these skills in a professional biomedical research setting.
