As a final-year student at the University of Auckland, I could not be more excited for the next chapter where I will be pursuing a career in accounting/finance. I was born in Sri Lanka, where I learned to have a great appreciation for diverse cultures and ways of thinking. My educational background includes attending Trinity College Sri Lanka and Gateway College Kandy Sri Lanka. While studying at the University of Auckland, I have showcased a strong work ethic and determination to grasp and learn key focal concepts. Driven by a strong work ethic has allowed me to become a certified Xero advisor, as well as having completed the MYOB essentials project. Working towards these goals has enabled me to cement my knowledge of Accounting Software and how to aptly use them in the workplace. These include having to create/send invoices to customers, input key information from primary documents, manage the chart of accounts, and output accurate financial statements. Furthermore, a key tool that I am proficient in is the skillful use of Microsoft Excel. My work experiences include working as a junior lecture room equipment checker from March 2021 to August 2021. This role demanded of its candidates to be able to think outside the box and solve problems regarding technical issues. Being able to keep close attention and being punctual was also a critical part of the job. I was also fortunate to work for Oxfam Aoteroa for a short period, from Dec 2021 to January 2022. Here I was able to build up my communication skills and soft skills through contacting potential donors. Currently, I am working as a Crew Member at McDonald's where I'm lovin'it. Outside of laying the foundation for a career in accounting/finance, I have many hobbies I take part in. I am a very social person and therefore I love to spend my free time with my close friends. Moreover, I am a person who takes the value of physical health important. Meaning I go to the gym quite often and take participation in sports activities during the weekend. An important part of your health is also what you consume, therefore I also enjoy cooking. Currently, my career aspirations include landing a graduate job doing what I love. The accounting and finance industry can be quite competitive, but I believe my work ethic will give me a slight advantage. I see myself in the long run being a certified chartered accountant and possibly starting my own consultancy firm with all the years of experience I am yet to gain.
