America Editor
CurrentAs the launch editor for a new magazine product designed for the North American market, I was privileged to have the opportunity to design, staff, and launch a new digital-first operation from the ground up. Working closely with the head office in London, I directed designers and technicians, led recruitment, and conceived and built editorial workflow systems. Building on the UK New Statesman brand but developing it for a new audience was a challenge I relished, and I successfully led the new publication to its 2018 launch while simultaneously helping implement a new company-wide paywall strategy that would go on to dramatically increase global digital revenue. My strategy of focusing on high-impact literary essays, insightful analysis, and deeply-reported long-reads – both from experienced journalists and from new writers whom it was my responsibility (and joy) to find and nurture – bore fruit as our audience grew and our relationship with US readers deepened.
