At LCM-IFC (http://www.lcm-ifc.com/) we worked on delivering bespoke training courses and management processes for Companies with the objective of enhancing the knowledge of the participants in how global, regional and national fuel supply chains work. We also had a focus on fuel-quality management training and advice.The training package we developed enabled participants to understand the importance of maintaining high quality fuel through good management and effective operation of the supply chain, and to understand the importance of assuring the fuel quality thus reducing the risk of contamination affecting the fuel.We were targeting the Nigerian Government and Public Sector, with courses aimed at senior managers responsible for fuel supply chains in defence, aviation, government and major companies across all industrial sectors. Due to prolonged negotiations I opted to move on from this venture.

I management and facilitated the delivery of Leadership Development Seminars for Senior Managers to expand their knowledge and understanding of themselves and their teams, to deliver a more efficient and effective output. I worked with member company Heads of Training & Development to align their training needs to the programme I ran in London of monthly one-day seminars, with a renown speaker on specific subject areas. I engaged with potential new companies to expand the number signed up to this member only organisation. I also worked with past delegates to provide online access to a large collection of short videos by the IMS speakers on a vast range of leadership and personal development subjects.

I worked as a BD Manager for Supreme Group, a Global Logistics Organisation working in remote and hostile regions. I was given responsibility for BD in the UK MoD Facilities Management area, and breaking into new markets in Australia and India. I worked on developing a bid to provide E2E aviation fuel supply to the Australian Military, including innovative solutions for long-term storage in remote locations, and in developing links in the wider Australian Defence and commercial sectors, in particular mining organisations. I also conducted work into the possibility of opening up business in India, but this proved not to be the right market for Supreme Group's activities. I left on redundancy following the decision to drawdown and reorganise the Group in light of NATO's mission in Afghanistan coming to an end, with the closure of the London Office.

I contract manged an Operations & Maintenance Contract, at the time provided by Babcock International, for the safe operations and maintenance of a large aviation-fuel pipeline and storage system in the UK. At the OPA we managed this asset, called the Government Pipeline and Storage System, on behalf of the MoD and commercial customers, which supplied 40% of the UK's aviation fuel needs to commercial and military airfields. I managed the South & West sector which had an annual operating budget of some £4.2M and covered over £100M worth of assets. I was responsible for oversight of maintenance activities and planning, routine operations, stock control, and quality assurance. I managed an annual works budget of £1M and project managed several large projects including an urgent enhancement to fire-fighting capabilities at a bulk-fuel-storage site. I worked with key stakeholders on future requirements and more immediate needs from the MoD to other users of the system, to the HSE, Environment Agency, and Land Managers. I also worked closely with our HSE Team to develop safety cases, procedures and process safety reviews.

I led a team assigned to provide Assurance and Governance to support all MoD helicopter programmes and projects, to ensure that the through life support needs of these projects were being met within policy guidelines, and that projects were being managed in accordance with laid down procedures. Due to the number of projects I concentrated my limited resource on high risk, high cost and high profile projects. I developed strong relationships with all Helicopter project-teams to ensure that they could liaise with my team if they had concerns on projects outwith these parameters. We developed a working model to be used by the Helicopter Modifications team to ensure that their work aligned to the wider project team work for that particular aircraft. We concentrated our efforts on working with the project teams to ensure that their submission for next stage approval were robust and that all identified risks were mitigated, to a smooth as possible passage through the senior committees to approve next stage delivery.

Stafford

Selected against competition to command this 210 strong specialist RAF Unit, that supported MoD helicopters, and those of NATO and coalition nations, on operations and exercises world-wide, at a time of high operational tempo and organisational change. I managed an operating budget of £10M and was responsible for the management of £60M worth of assets from specialist fuel tankers and aircraft refuellers, to deployable fuel-handing and delivery equipment, and a wider range of generic support equipment. I also managed the Unit's real estate and buildings, which included facilities for specialist fuel-vehicle maintenance, a helicopter refuelling site, as well as a headquarters building and training facilities.The Unit's key output was to provide fuel to deliver rotors-turning refuelling capabilities world-wide as directed by higher formation. By careful management of resources we were able to sustain the rotation of our personnel and equipment through permanent detachments in Afghanistan, Iraq and the Falkland Islands, and for prolonged periods in Kenya to support training exercises. We also deployed resources to support more ad hoc exercise within the UK and Europe. Due to the high operational tempo resources were naturally stretched so I reorganised the Unit's training focus to align to the demands of the current operations to best prepare personnel for their operational tours. I instigated and managed a business-continuity initiative to turn round a critical but unsustainable support-engineering capability into a vastly more efficient, streamlined, and sustainable capability. I achieved this by centralising maintenance facilities closer to equipment storage areas, and investing in works to upgrade engineering facilities and either mothballed equipment that was not needed to support current capability, or organised for equipment to be held under whole-fleet-management arrangements.

Prior to the subsequent positions listed, I had a highly successful and enjoyable 24 year career as a Logistics Officer in the RAF, working both across the MOD and with NATO, and other coalition forces in the logistics environment on operations and exercises, and in strategy and planning. As a fuel specialist I worked predominantly with Aviation Fuel, covering operations of ship-to-shore transfers, pipeline work, bulk storage, aircraft and ship refuelling and specialist helicopter refuelling support worldwide. I also worked in policy developing SOPs for fuel operations, and managing Standards and QA across the MoD. I project managed various fuel infrastructure improvements, and was a specialist in portable and deployable fuel handing equipment. I also worked in appointments covering Supply Chain Operations and Through Life Assurance posts. For a year I also ran all the fuel operations and requirements for the British Military in the Falkland Islands.
