Separations Scientist
Performed GMP experiments for the Analytical Development group of a major biopharmaceutical client as a Separations Scientist within Eurofins Professional Scientific Services.• Completed cSDS and SEC method validation for a bispecific antibody to support BLA filing within ICH guidelines by conducting experiments that showed specificity, accuracy, precision, linearity, LOQ, and LOD• Determined protein drug substance purity, residual parents, and concentration using analytical techniques including cSDS electrophoresis, SE-HPLC, Hydrophobic Interaction LC, cIEF, UV-Vis, and SoloVPE• Created instrument/processing/report methods and troubleshot errors in Empower software; trained colleagues on instruments, data analysis, and using BioVia eLN system
Graduate Student Researcher
I completed my thesis in a zeolite membrane synthesis and characterization lab, which specializes in mixed-gas permeation and separation selectivity measurements, under the direction of Dr. John Falconer and Dr. Richard Noble. My dissertation examined the effect of impurities on gas separations in Chabazite membranes, with applications in natural gas processing.• Built and modified multi-gas flow systems; calibrated flow controllers, pressure gauges, and gas chromatographs; wrote LabVIEW programs to automate control and measurements; and optimized flow systems protocols for efficient data collection.• Designed and built a testing system to measure power curves of dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSC) for an independent project; developed solar cells production and testing methods to achieve reproducible standard cell performance from literature reports; designed and evaluated cells with novel semiconductor layer structures.• Collaborated with specialty ceramics and materials companies to use molecular layer deposition (ALD/MLD) to create porous thin-films to improve separation selectivity of gas membranes and to improve sensor selectivity of VOC sensors with funding through the MAST Center, a joint university/company/NSF research center.

The solar oven team (Cornell Amanacer) designs and tests solar cookers which can supplement traditional cooking methods, especially the wood fires used in many developing areas which cause respiratory problems and deforestation.• Traveled to Nicaragua three times in conjunction with Grupo Fenix (of the National Engineering University of Nicaragua) solar culture courses to build passive solar box ovens and exchange ideas with a local women’s group affiliate, which allowed our student group to improve our collaborative designs back on campus.• Designed and constructed a powerful ‘indoor sun’ computer-controlled lighting system to test solar ovens in a static environment at all times of day, and constructed and tested several box ovens to measure and compare performance of different designs.• Performed demonstrations on campus and at the Ithaca farmers’ market with box ovens and parabolic cooker to engage the community and discuss and promote our work.
Student Member
Engineers for a sustainable world promotes sustainability practices on campuses and around the globe. During my time in the club I arranged volunteer events as VP of service and helped lead club events as co-president.• Organized a competition between freshman dormitories to see which could reduce energy and water consumption the most over a month by working with university utilities to collect usage data, and administrators to promote awareness of the event.• Helped coordinate a campaign to reduce transportation fuel use by increasing ridesharing, public transportation, and bicycling to work in the ‘Drive not to Drive’ event which was partially sponsored by the city bus system (Tompkins Consolidated Area Transit)
Reu Research Intern
I spent the summer working with two graduate students on a biofuels project to create a solid-acid, magnetic catalyst to break down cellulose into fermentable sugars, and is then recovered from heterogeneous solution by a magnetic field. I synthesized and characterized the catalyst, and measured conversion of model reactant cellobiose in batch reactions to determine reaction rate constants.
