I spent several years on an entrepreneurial journey in the private sector with OK Student and redefining what I could achieve with graduate talent in international student recruitment.It was a pleasure to be managing the global growth strategy as a Director for Vermilion Group who currently operate educational consultancies across the world through the popular agency brands OK Student, OK Estudante, OK Estudiante.On paper OK Student is a student advisory and application centre, connecting students with more than 60+ of our partner universities in the UK. In reality, we were disrupting and re-imagining the industry.I led a bunch of passionate and talented people, building an international community that support each other and have an incredible organic reach. We combined a magical mix of leaders, who have been in the educational industry for years, with the students and creatives who are hungry and know what the market really needs. And the latter I’m personally the most proud of. We empowered students and graduates by giving them the platform to write, speak and gain experience, while driving the business forward. I built a team of talented young leaders around my stewardship and the adventure continues to this day. Nottingham Trent University (NTU) is one of the UK's largest and most popular universities with more than 30,000 students split over four different campuses. I joined NTU as the marketing manager and initially focused on the marketing communications aspect applying a diverse mix of different marketing skills. We did a lot of planning around the customer journey and strategic management of marketing and communications campaigns.Throughout my seven years as a marketing manager, my role developed from more routine marketing communications to senior portfolio management and really learning about positioning through entry requirements and customer engagement strategies. Most importantly, I started to build my network in higher education and actively engage with the higher education community.

Building on the skills I learned, I moved on quite quickly to Experience Nottinghamshire Ltd. I joined as a Publications Manager, managing the production of the printed guides mainly for the tourism industry.It was a great mixture of creative design and project management. I really enjoyed working and guiding the creative design team and also mediating the sales side with all the stakeholders that had an interest in being represented in the publications.

Coming from a creative degree of arts and writing, my first real work gig was with Nottingham Evening Post. At the time (and I still do), I really liked the idea of journalism, echoing other people's stories and finding creative ways of making people heard. My role as a Reader Promotions Executive was to find creative ways to engage with the community of readers and increase Nottingham Evening Post readership. As a part of the marketing team, I often had an opportunity to work with big brands being part of some really fun projects.Remember “Baby of the Year”? “Pet Idol”? “Win free fuel for a year”? During my time there we won two CEPA Gold Awards and personally, I got to see for the first time a large business from the inside and see how the newspaper business works. Being fully consumer-centric, I learned a lot about people and consumer needs that I believe have helped me immensely until this day.
