In May 2024, I started my position as a technical sales intern at Solenis. I have spent my time servicing the Covington, VA paper mill. I helped run a safety audit, and laid the groundwork for an evaporator anti-scale sale. Starting in January 2023, I worked as an engineering co-op within the Recovery department at Smurfit WestRock's Covington Mill. Throughout my time with Smurfit WestRock I worked in many different projects across the department from process optimizations to equipment startup coordination and even a recovery boiler audit. To help me better troubleshoot and solve problems, I also learned software such as PI AF, PI Processbook, and Minitab. In the summers of 2021 and 2022, I have had the opportunity to work as a drone coding instructor for Woodberry Forest School's Compass Program. In this role, I would work to design different lesson plans, programs, and activities to best teach middle-school-aged boys how to code and fly drones. Running a drone coding class for middle school boys was a difficult balancing act. I had to design lessons in ways that were both educational and fun to keep the boys engaged. I loved running the class.While in my second semester at Virginia Tech, I worked with a team to design a novel instrument. Our design centralized around reversing the functionality of a speaker. We designed a stringed instrument that used a speaker as the audio pickup instead of as the audio output device. Since I have experience playing the violin and one of my group members has experience playing the guitar, we decided to focus on a stringed design. After a lot of sketching, prototypes, and time in the lab, we successfully made a good-sounding instrument that used a speaker as the microphone.
