Team developing scene-generation tools for MAVS (Mississippi State University Autonomous Vehicle Simulator) in conjunction with U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center. The scene generation tools automatically generate environments to train and test autonomous off-road ground vehicles. Implemented an artificial intelligence Pix2Pix GAN to create autumn and winter foliage textures from summer foliage textures; used a limited dataset of converted textures for training. Prepared and collected data from ~10,000 tree and foliage models via python scripts for use with MAVS. Team member working on generating realistic snow accumulation models and realistic snow rendering models to accurately simulate how snow effects terrain conditions as well as sensor readings such as readings collected from cameras and LiDAR.Creating a neural network for segmenting and infilling camera obfuscations for offroad autonomous vehicles. Currently expanding training data from lab-generated mud obfuscation data to also include real-world data. The neural network currently detects the presence of mud and then implements a u-net model to segment the image into muddy and non-muddy classifications. The mud detection and mud segmentation currently have a validation accuracy of 96% and 98%, respectively. The high accuracy is due to the similarity in the lab data and will change when real-world data is introduced to the dataset.

Created iOS and desktop applications that allowed the users to communicate their common areas of travel and preferences for new amenities: one for Byram, MS and one for Starkville, MS. It allowed the residents to input their common locations and routes and allowed for them to request new walking and biking routes for the city. The data was then provided to the cities in the form of KML files.Worked with the Starkville School District to create interactive physics-based environments to teach students how physics affects the world around us. A 2D water application showed students how waves can behave in a sinusoidal fashion that is affected by the frequency and amplitude of the waves. Also created a natural disasters application that demonstrated how a tornado and flood can affect a city based on different choices the user makes for how the buildings are constructed.Developed Object Recognition Augmented Reality (AR) application that will recognize a given power supply and its components and instruct the user on common maintenance tasks for the power supply (e.g., how to replace a fuse on the device). Developed AR Architecture Recognition demo that illustrates the result of potential building changes proposed to an existing building within a town or city.Developed AR application that allows users to experience walking through a city to view a city layout as well as providing the ability to scale the city to any size. Developed an AR application for the Mississippi State Formula SAE team that allowed the user to drive a virtual model of the vehicle around the room. Later added additional features for a proof of concept to guide a user step-by-step in the process of changing the car tire.
