I completed a 3 month contract at Tyrell, this allowed me to gain further invaluable practical experience in the post-production industry. I gained some great professional and technical experience in various different areas, some of these are listed below:Avid Media ComposerGood understanding of the support and installation of Avid Media Composer workstations and of the channels needed to escalate issues to Avid when there is a bug within their product. I additionally gained some great experience dealing with license related issues.Professional Experience Experience of working within a team with multiple functions, communication skills both in person and over the phone, working to deadlines on support issues, logging all calls and problems and the ability to break down technical information for a non-technical user.Software and Systems Gained useful knowledge of various software and systems including Avid, Facilis, ObjectMatrix, Editshare, Clear-Com, Microsft Windows, Linux and Windows.

For three months, I worked on a TV Production proof of concept in BBC Wales. This was done in order to test new technologies before BBC Wales moves to the new Cardiff broadcasting house. During this proof of concept many tests were ran to see what the best performing products were in a production TV environment as long as proving that many different technologies could work to the requirements of the new building.The technology used in this project ranged from different edit workstations and programs to different storage servers.As part of my Dissertation for the University of Salford, I additionally wrote up a document about the technology at use in this proof of concept and how different vendors compared to each other.Responsibilities• Setting up, configuring and maintaining systems• Researching how systems work• Assisting users during tests• Making a write-up on the findingsAchievements• Gained a great understanding of how Post-Production technology works• Achieved vital experience of working on a project from start to finish• Completed a write-up which benefited business decisions

For three months, I was on a placement with ITV Coronation Street as part of my BBC Apprenticeship.During my time at Coronation Street I worked closely with the engineering team at Coronation Street to help maintain the equipment and systems required for the program to run.Responsibilities• Fixing broken equipment• Operate cameras• Perform line-up on camera's both in studio and on-location• Rig and de-rig technical equipment in studio and on-location• Gain understanding of the post-production processAchievements• Gained experience with fixing equipment and cables• Obtained an insight into how a studio operates• Helped maintain equipment at tough locations on night shoots

For three months, I was on a placement with Arqiva as part of my BBC Apprenticeship.During those three months I shadowed various members of the Arqiva engineers as they went to many transmission sites to fix various faults, these faults ranged from a transmitter which is not working at all to placing new equipment at sites.Responsibilities• Being ready to go out to sites• Ensuring equipment is working correctly• Learning about how transmission works in detail• Assisting engineering team with faultsAchievements• Helped engineers out on faults• Achieved a broad understanding of how transmitters work

From April 2012 to August 2013 I did some work experience at a local software development company, as I had one free day from College each week I decided it would be beneficial to utilise that day for some good experience.During my work experience at Jarlife, it helped me to understand the difference between theory and practice, I engaged local companies looking for work experience opportunities. Jarlife offered a long term placement in an environment specialising in providing professional software solutions for systems and networks. I gained invaluable commercial exposure to C#, SQL Server, Crystal Reports development for Windows and Web forms applications. The experience gained at Jarlife has helped me to underline the difference between working in academia and business. Learning-from-doing in the workplace is more realistic and ultimately more rewarding.
