Thesis research examined the coherence and array signal processing benefits of the autoproduct, a product of two or more Helmholtz equation solutions, in random environments.- Determined theoretical formula describing the autoproduct in underwater acoustic scattering from the sea surface. Developed numerical simulations, performed laboratory experiments, and analyzed ocean data to verify analytic results. - Derived governing equations for the cubic autoproduct and confirmed its noise suppression capabilities by assessing direction-of-arrival estimates of low signal-to-noise ratio ocean acoustic recordings. - Expanded autoproduct domain to electromagnetic wave propagation to improve active target localization in forested environments. Designed and conducted beamforming experiments using 3-5 GHz frequency content and linearly polarized antennas in vv configuration in dense wooded areas.
