I am a Junior at Purdue enrolled in their Mechanical Engineering program. I plan to get a bachelor's in mechanical engineering and a business economics minor with a graduation date of December 2025. Last year I joined a research project in the RAAD lab working on developing a pneumatic valve switch to allow physical reprogramming of a soft robotics structure. This project began with almost a full semester of CAD Design and prototyping to develop a valve that met our criteria. After the development of the valve I began planning a larger scale test using our system.Freshman year I was in Purdue's EPICS program as part of the CED (Children's Educational Demonstrations) project. This team has separate sub-groups each working on their own display for the Indianapolis Children's Museum. My group worked to add to their existing magnetism displays, with a maglev style train that the children will be able to interact with. In this project I played a role in a lot of the design and CAD work. I was also the project liaison, meaning I am the one who communicated with our project partner at the children's museum. By the end of the semester we went from having no project to a functional model that our project partner approved of. Next year's group was left with the task of perfecting the small details and making it look good for the museum.In high school I was part of my school's robotics team as the general team leader. I was also the head of the assembly and design teams. In my junior year I was the project lead for creating a pick-and-place robot for a local company. During my senior year I was one of the student managers of our student run business, Lion Manufacturing. I oversaw our CAD work, operation of 3D printers, and operation of our CNC plasma table. Through these experiences I have worked with CNC mills, CNC plasma tables, CAD programs (Fusion 360, NX, Inventor, OnShape) some basic programming in Python, and several different 3D printers (Stratasys, Ultimaker and Creality). I have also greatly grown my teamwork, project management, and communication skills through these opportunities.

    A position giving an introduction to the R&D side of battery engineering. On the Cell Build side of this role I shadowed all aspects of the battery build process from mixing premixes and slurries, coating foils, drying, and final cell assembly for coin cells, mlps, and 18650s as well as all the verification steps along the way. Saw the operation of the battery cyclers as well as how the data they produce is used. Due to the nature of the work and company policy I was unable to physically help in customer work, but some hands on work included making premixes, cutting foils, and cutting separator. On the Test & Evaluation side we worked with larger modules instead of individual cells. Learned about the larger battery cyclers and the scripting that controls them. Saw some of the abuse testing battery modules are put through. Worked on several Python projects including data analysis and CAN messaging.

    This was a project created with a team of three others for our Sophomore Design class. We referred to ourselves as Team Pathfinder and this was the problem statement we decided to center our project around: "Many physical therapy programs use a combination of at-clinic and at-home methods to help rehabilitate the affected area. There are existing machines tailored to rehabilitate rotator cuffs that reside in physical therapy offices, but the cost and size of these machines make them ill-suited for continued treatment at home. Available at-home methods work to some degree, but they are not specifically designed for the rotator cuff and consequently do not effectively target the injured area.Therefore, Team Pathfinder is developing a mechanical device specifically designed to rehabilitate rotator cuff injuries at home."Some key design requirements we had for our project were:- Lightweight- Variable Resistance- Safe to use- Quick to Set UpIn this project we followed through the problem definition, concept selection, and design realization phases of the design process. We wrote a report and presented on each phase of this process.Our final product:The device consists of a rotating arm that mounts to a table or other secure surface via a clamp. The user is able to slide "resistance packs" onto the arm to generate the resistive torque that exercises the rotator cuff. These resistance packs are composed of elastic bands and rollers with a case that holds the bands in tension. When the user rotates the arm this pulls on the bands. These resistance packs come in varying resistance and can be stacked to allow for a range of resistances. The arm also features a safety mechanism that uses a bike brake to engage a locking pin. This locking pin prevents the arm from snapping back if the users arm was to become reinjured in the exercise, which prevents making any reinjury worse. The arm will not rotate backwards unless the brake handle is squeezed in.

    I joined the Children's Educational Demonstrations (CED) team during my second semester of my freshman year. This team works in three sub-teams each creating an individual project for the Indiapolis Children's Museum to use in their educational demonstrations.I was the project partner liaison for the whole team, meaning I was the point of contact between our partner at the museum and the rest of the team. One example of what I did in this role was to organize a trip to the museum so we could talk to our project partner in person and explore the museum. I was on the Maglev Display sub-team. Our team's goal was to create a small demonstration of maglev train travel to add to the museum's pre-existing lesson on magnetism. I was the team's CAD specialist so did almost any CAD work we needed. I created numerous different train models and mock-ups of the final design to help make sure our project partner was satisfied. After most aspects of the design were worked out I also took a large role in assembling/fabricating the frame that would encase the train model.Starting from almost nothing at the beginning of the semester, we ended the semester with a working prototype that is close to the finished model design. We could have attempted to finish the project completely, but decided to pass the finishing details onto the next team to ensure proper time and care was taken to keep the project up to the EPICS standards.

    This is a position in my high school's student run business. I oversaw the production of products made on our 3D printers and our CNC plasma table. By the end of the year there were usually five other students working under me each day that I planned tasks for. In our branch we had ten 3D printers. We made our own designs on CAD. I commonly had to communicate with customers to ensure they were satisfied with a design. During this school year our student run business grew from around ten students to over twenty. Me and the other student managers presented our student run business to a number of people and groups over the year.

    I was enlisted in a project to help raise funds for our school's robotics club and engineering program. The school partnered with a local company, Jasper Engines, to design them a pick-and-place robot. This project took place during and outside of school for several hours each week. I was designated by our teacher to be the project lead. The project was split between two separate task forces: an advanced force solely dedicated to working on the robot, and a task force to provide help when needed.
