Research Assistant
CurrentAs part of the Language Team at Wollotuka, I assist with Indigenous Language Research. We seek to understand linguistic structures found in historical language materials, as well as explore the cultural meanings embedded in those materials. I produce narrow phonetic transcriptions, analyse linguistic structures, produce materials and resources for language revitalisation, contribute to discussions on language and meaning, and assist with authoring academic outputs.I spoke alongside Dr. Jean Harkins on Supporting language renewal initiatives at the Bayira event hosted by the Purai Global Indigenous History Centre in September 2023I spoke on a panel on Language Revitalisation at Wollotuka for NSW Aboriginal Languages Week in October 2023. I also produced a Guide to Pronouncing Australian Speech Sounds for the NSW Aboriginal Languages Trust for NSW Aboriginal Languages WeekI spoke on a panel on Language & Cultural Practice for the celebrations of Wollotuka's 40th Anniversary in November 2023I co-presented a working paper "A Kempsey Story: Linguistic Analysis and Cultural Layering" alongside Dr. Raymond Kelly, Dr. Jean Harkins, and Nathan Morgan-Hammer at the Centenary Forum for the Australian Aboriginal Progressive Association at the NSW State Library in April 2024I co-presented a paper "Decolonising dialectology? Viewing language diversity from the inside" alongside Dr. Raymond Kelly and Dr. Jean Harkins at the conference Methods in Dialectology XVIII at La Trobe University in July 2024I co-presented a research poster as part of the Wollotuka Languages Team at the Umilliko Wollotuka Research Gathering in August 2024
