S.H.I.R.E.--Sustainable Habitats Incorporating Renewable EducationFounded as a 501c3 Non-profit in order to educate the public about sustainable solutions to resource scarcity issues facing us today and in the near future. Through our pilot project on 100 acres outside Austin TX we grew to provide field trips for hundreds of elementary and middle school youth, outreach to the Austin and surrounding communities, and consulting for local businesses to make their practices more sustainable.

Various sustainable communities in the U.S. and South America, including Gaia in Argentina and the Omaere ethobotanical park in Ecuador, have been reaching for sustainability since before the word was coined. Through close work with sustainability crusaders and indigenous communities I learned techniques that increase independence and decrease waste.
