I am a software developer and architect. I have been developing software solutions for 10 years, in various languages; C++, Java, JavaScript, PHP, and Ruby. I have used many other technologies and frameworks and feel very comfortable learning new things. I just love to code, but especially love starting new projects and feel right at home taking the lead. One of my current passions is to remind myself that I don't know everything! ;) I never want to be the guy who thinks he knows it all, I want to be the guy who finds the best solutions. Lately, I have been working with embedded systems and enterprise cloud services. I have spent much time with secure video streaming and developing complex 'Big Data' algorithms. My goal is to learn a new technology every 2 or 3 months. Along with staying up to date with development patterns, ideas, and tools. One last thing, engage in at least one in-depth conversation about software management or design a month.

OwnerMonster Software Llc Apr 2011 - PresentRio Rancho, New Mexico AreaI have worked on various project in the last few years and wanted to give a brief summary of some of technologies used:Java 7/8, Eclipse RCP 3 & 4, SWT, JFace, Swing, SymmetricDS, MySQL, Spring 3 & 4 and many modules, Grails & Groovy, Pentaho ETL, JavaScript, Atom, ReactJS, C3JS, jQuery and some helpful plugins, Neo4J, IZPack, GitProjects worked on:I was building a Time Tracking application that was Eclipse RCP based. It incorporated Neo4J as the backend and Spring for framework to build upon. I have it setup for P3 updates and also uses IZPack for installation on OSX/Linux/Windows. The project is available on GitHub, https://github.com/NickPadilla/TimeEaseI was also working on an application that used Spring and Pentaho ETL. The goal was to provide a way for users to see what exactly the elected officials were proposing or endorsing. It was going to be able to mark your location so that it would automatically show your local officials. You could then virtually vote on the proposals/laws. You would be able to see how others in the same district were voting, you could then know if the officials were doing things that the populace was in agreement with. This project got sidelined when the mTHINX contract came up - unfortunately. I would still love to see some other project that provided this functionality. The GitHub link, https://github.com/NickPadilla/VirtualVoteI also built out another Eclipse RCP Project for a gold store chain. The application is a POS system that also had centralized and local data storage. It also used Spring and JFace but used MySQL as the backend. This project made use of SymmetricDS for synchronizing the data from the different stores. The application allowed centralized users and integrated with a ID Scanner so that picture ID's were stored with the user account. It also provided an integration with a scale so that all weights could be monitored closely and then provided an amount to be given for the provided gold. -

Software Architect/DeveloperMethodist Healthcare Aug 2011 - Feb 2013Remote WorkDuring my time with Methodist Healthcare I worked on several projects, below are some highlights. Achievements: I was the first to successfully upgrade their legacy Apache Roller instance to the latest version - version 5. MS SQL was heavily used in the organization but Apache didn’t use it. There were several issues that had to be resoled, provided patches for Apache to fix the issues with. https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/ROL-1927I added Atlassian Crowd authentication to Apache Roller, it was accepted, committed, and released. It was later pulled due to Apache developers not wanting to have proprietary code, the atlassian code, in the stack. I have never gotten around to creating documentation for adding Crowd authentication to Roller as suggested in the issue. https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/ROL-1933I added LDAP Comment authentication to Apache Roller, it was accepted, committed, and released. https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/ROL-1934I built out a dynamic form builder using just JSON and DisplayTag. This allowed a generic Search filter to be used for any type of data for internal use. I setup a centralized log monitoring solution using Logstash, Redis, and ElasticSearch. Provided a way for Methodist Hospitals to quickly pinpoint and solve issues in real time. Had to fix these issues during the course of implementation. https://github.com/elastic/logstash/pull/107 https://github.com/elastic/logstash/pull/131I created a Logstash plugin to send SMTP email notifications based on configured conditions giving fine control over notifications. I set it up using TLS for secure transmission. https://github.com/elastic/logstash/pull/132 I created a Logstash plugin to send data to a graphing application called Graphtastic. https://github.com/elastic/logstash/pull/123Built out Graphtastic to render data from the Logstash integration, https://github.com/NickPadilla/GraphTastic. This was before Grafana was popular. -
Sr. Application DeveloperExecutime Software Apr 2007 - Apr 2011Las Cruces, New Mexico AreaI worked with two other developers to develop Enterprise Time & Attendance solution, from existing legacy Java code. My responsibilities included :Create and setup SSL certifications for customers that requested the application run on a secure socket. Implemented SSL in Weblogic 8.1/10/10.3, Tomcat 5.5/6, Jboss 5.1.Installed and maintained OpenVPN solution used to connect to customer environments. Was setup using TLS and password protected accounts. Created Development processes and procedures to ensure application success. This includes but not limited to: code control, best practices, version life cycle, commit procedures and JUnit testing.Upgraded the Struts 1 framework with Struts 2, integrated JSF and custom built JavaScript to produce a clean and user-friendly GUI. Implemented extend-able framework to integrate communication with third-party Time Device solutions. Also integrated several new Time Devices, time device communications were done with RS232, Third-party Executables and SOAP devices. Was responsible for the design and implementation of a dynamic reporting framework using BIRT. Implementation included shared reporting libraries, reusable datasets, creation of custom report widgets and charts, export to CSV, Excel, PDF, Word, PostScript and PowerPoint. Also included dynamically created tables/rows/cells depending on the configuration of the report design.Created and maintained database scripts for new features and when refactoring problem areas of the code base. Project was originally built as a WAR, however this limited the flexibility of the application. I assisted in the migration to an EAR project format that was then deployed to Jboss5.1. -
Software DeveloperM2R2 Jul 2005 - Mar 2007Las Cruces, New Mexico AreaI assisted in creation of a self described iSeries Health Monitoring System, called IMobleLink. System enabled AS400 administrators to monitor the system though a cell phone text messages.
