Nicholas Rivero is a third-year pharmacy student at Nova Southeastern University (NSU) Ft. Lauderdale campus. He is excited to follow in his mother’s footsteps, who graduated from NSU in 2018 with her Pharm D. Nicholas began his journey into pharmacy in high school, completing college classes as a dual-enrollment student and graduating with his Associate’s degree in 2019. From there, he went on to graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology at the University of Florida in 2021. It was during this time at the University of Florida that his interest in pharmacy grew, especially after completing organic chemistry with one of the most difficult professors on campus. Shortly after graduating, he began working part-time as a pharmacy technician for Publix Supermarkets and worked to receive a teaching certificate with Miami-Dade County Public Schools. A few months after working as a pharmacy technician, Nicholas began working as a Biology teacher at Hialeah Middle School, gaining experience as a leader to over 100 students. At the end of the year, he achieved a 70% passing rate for the state Biology exam, despite being the only teacher for the subject at the school. While he could have continued teaching, his time in the pharmacy as a technician, and now as an intern, is what finally drew him into applying at NSU, and he has not regretted it since! With the guidance of his pharmacy managers and like-minded peers at Publix, he was able to gain valuable skills in providing the highest quality of care to patients, preparing him for a successful venture into pharmacy school. Since beginning at NSU, he has gone on to excel in his studies and continuously score high on examinations, and has become an active member of the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists (ASCP) on campus. Looking forward, Nicholas intends to stay at Publix immediately after graduation and then explore his options after completing his consultant pharmacist license. Outside of classes, Nicholas enjoys playing with his dogs, spending time with family and friends, and playing video games competitively.
