My career story is very unlike most of my generational peers. I have spent the last 18 years with the same company, though in many different roles. I started with Express-Scripts in 2006 as an order packer. I was fortunate to have a leader who recognized my technical abilities and quickly promoted me through various technical roles within a year. I was then surprised and honored when I was asked to help lead the very order packing operation that I had joined only a year prior. With a new mentor, focused on Lean/Continuous Improvement philosophy and a production line in which we could test our optimization experiments, a passion for Kaizen began to grow. Eventually I became the plant manager (if only for the weekend days), but was again honored with the trust placed in me. The next role was in the record management office, which allowed me to lead an enthusiastic team to build and implement our own operating system, becoming an example for others to benchmark. We had integrated analytics mechanisms into our management operating system that caught the attention of another future leader. Moving into a planning role for the pharmacy was a change, but the experiences with process improvement, analytics, and building operating systems showed me that there was always value to capture in complex process. Again a very passionate and talented team, combined with structured operating mechanisms made winning feel easy, and the team was able to enjoy the benefits of their engagement and visibility. After a time, I was offered another opportunity to join the Contact Center. I was assured that the success I had lead in the prior position was sorely needed, and accepted the offer. What I found was that while Contact Center was new to me, was that "it's all the same and it's all different". Beginning with the people, we again delivered a turnaround. I was again surprised when asked to lead the newly combined Cigna and Express Scripts Forecasting team. A full doubling of scope, and a huge mountain to climb with integration of process, tools and operating mechanisms to an aligned operating model. Again, encouraging mentors and an outstanding staff allowed us to deliver market leading results for our internal customers.
