Through my past experiences in reading Geography, working in the arts and research in the public sector, I have met people from all-walks-of-life, and have developed a keen sense of what people are interested and concerned with on a daily basis. I often heard about people’s anxieties about becoming a burden to their family, should an unexpected healthcare episode or possible chronic illness occur later in life, during my time in the public sector and through informal chats with family and friends. Reflecting on these issues, I decided to make a career switch to healthcare and read Occupational Therapy in SIT, so that I can work more closely with people on the ground. It can be an alienating and isolating experience to lose one’s independence in everyday tasks like eating and dressing. I am eager to pick up both the hard and soft skills needed to become a good OT clinician, and journey alongside a patient so they can regain some independence and continue living out their lives meaningfully. My areas of expertise include:Written and Verbal Communication Problem Solving and Logical Thinking TeamworkQualitative Research Geospatial Software (ArcGIS)
