The American Cancer Society’s (ACS) mission is to Save Lives, Celebrate Lives and Lead the Fight for a world without cancer. I get to work on attacking cancer from every angle everyday! I work primarily in Thurston County. Not only do I work here but I am a 33 year resident of this wonderful area! I work side by side and manage teams of motivated and determined volunteers. We partner with businesses, teams and individuals to achieve the mission of ACS. I am so proud to Work with the best volunteers leadership group and manage the Relay For Life of Thurston County, the nations 6th largest Community Relay, and it is right here in Lacey, Washington ! My goal is that every survivor and caregiver will be invited to our events and be celebrated for the HOPE they represent, that we will raise the money needed to fund the next advancement in treatment, that anyone in our area will always have access to care because of the work we do. I started with Applebee’s as a server and was given great opportunities to have a role in our local marketing, training, regional trainer and because of my dedication and attention to detail, ability to lead and motivate a team I was recruited for an Elite team of trainers. As an Elite I opened new Applebee’s locations throughout the United States and internationally in Singapore. My job was to assure each new staff person was equipped to work the position they were hired for with confidence and perform to Applebee’s brand expectations. I was responsible for determining if the staff I was overseeing was in the right role,working with management to prepare a development plan for employees, identified new staff that would be a good fit for becoming a trainer within their position in their store. I worked with an extremely diverse group of trainers from across U.S., it was crucial to understand everyone has their own personality and work style. Being an Elite opens doors to work for any franchise or corporate Applebee’s as well. This was radical experience as you work with many different owners, different laws from state to state or even by county or county. You learn about so many different cultures and become a pro at adapting to the area you are in. We worked long hours, learned spec and policies for Applebee’s as a brand and any policy that may differ in each area. I worked with pride everyday for 14 years for a premiere Applebee’s franchise. My focus was not just to teach people how we do things at Applebee’s but to inspire them to take pride in all they do so whether they stayed within this company or moved on to any career in the future that they would leave feeling confident in the job they did , the effort they put in and would be the best at everything they set out to do.
