In Toledo, Ohio there are about 279,000 people, 113,000 are poor and 40,000 are extremely poor. Of the poor, 74% pay rent, making housing affordability a constant worry. Glass City Community Solar is a 501 (c) (3) committed to providing solar energy for Low Income families in Toledo Ohio. We work closely with many Toledo organizations and companies to identify opportunities to install solar power. These opportunities often require Glass City Community Solar to develop innovative business model to take advantage of solar incentives. Glass City Community Solar is currently working with the Lucas County Port Authority, The Department of Housing and Urban Development and The Department of Energy to create new financial tools to benefit the state of Ohio and its citizens.Our current work includes competing in the Solar in Your Community Challenge hosted through the Department of Energy. Our goal is to deliver solar energy to low income (section 8) housing while helping establish an organic network of solar support in Toledo.Glass City Community Solar was awarded $60,000.00 of funding from the Department of Energy and is eligible for up to $500,000.00 in future rewards.

NASA funded research to grow protein crystals on the International Space Station with and interest in immunology. Current work includes:-Developing optimum protein crystallization conditions (for antibodies)-Creating crystals large enough for neutron diffraction analysis-Identifying and crystallizing IgG antibodies to crystalize in microgravity

This terms projects targeted the following: - Creating new fuel grades for both gas and diesel markets (Beyond Top Tier Gas & establishing TT Diesel )- Developing and formulating new products - Working closely with research and development to deliver new and competitive products- Developing new test methods to deliver commercially relevant data (Think engine testing and dyno's)- Responding to sales and customer needs on a need basis- Standardizing product integrity testing

BOSEF is a scholarship group and student organization. We are also an organizing force for students interested in sustainability at The University of Toledo and Bowling Green State University.BOSEF focuses on undergraduate research and undergraduate driven projects. Recently our attention has shifted to completing research and projects that focus on making an impact in our local and state communities with an aim to raise more awareness and bring attention to our cause.

Simultaneous Isomerization and Reactive Extraction or SIRE is a process in which we take specific sugars found in common biomass and create a favorable pathway to create furan, a bio fuel precursor for internal combustion engines. We received funding from NSF due to the great interest in creating a energy efficient and industrialize-able system for creating furan, a bio-fuel precursor.
