Nick Adamopoulos studied Physics at the University of Athens and after attending one year funded postgraduate studies at Demokritos National Research Center, Greece, he moved to the University of Cambridge, UK. There, he carried out his PhD research on Applied Superconductivity at the Dept of Materials Science and Metallurgy and the Interdisciplinary Research Center in Superconductivity in the team of Prof J. E. Evetts. His PhD was funded by the British Technology Group and the European Community Research Council as one of the most promising research projects in UK and Europe at the time. His research consisted of developing novel high Tc superconductors (reinforced with inert whiskers which modulated the microstructure and enhanced the transport properties) and testing their electromagnetic properties at cryogenic conditions. Following one year as Post Doctoral Research Associate in Cambridge, he joined Maran Tankers Management, then Kristen Navigation, as Operator attending at the same time a four months course in Shipping which led to a Diploma. He has attended a large number of accredited seminars and courses on shipping ranging from chartering to leadership and from insurance to media handling. At the same time, he developed a database for operational and commercial information and statistics.Since 2012 he has been a dedicated member of the Intertanko Documentary Committee and has made important contributions to the Intertanko Model Clauses as well as to the recent publication of BPVOY5 commentary.His published work on pumping modelling has led to a four year joined project with the National Technical University of Athens on the simulation of pumping performance and the optimization of crude oil pumps handling.He has an extensive experience in the operation of crude oil carriers on spot and time chartered employment and for many years he has been attending a big fleet of VLCCs time chartered to ExxonMobil.In Nov 2014 he was promoted to Deputy Operations Manager and in Oct 2016 to Operations Manager.As Operator and Operations Manager he has participated for many years in the company’s training program presenting seminars to officers on Bunkering, Cargo Pumps Handling, Commercial Aspects, Chartering and Bills of Lading. He believes in the Leadership by the example and by the continuous training in a wide area of subjects. His code of conduct is consisted of integrity, transparency and deep knowledge.
