Senior Project was to design and build a semi-automated rotary seal leak tester for Blackmer to use on 26 of their unique rotary seals.Project involved designing the machine, selecting materials, designing nesting, finding parts, completing FEA, and building the machine.Specific responsibilities included leading the design of the machine, completing all FEA, maintaining contact with the customer, and leading the build of the machine.

Significant experience with 3D modeling, statistical analysis, process optimization, vibration testing, low cycle fatigue testing and contamination testing. Research done in the field of Additive Manufacturing including Direct Metal Laser Sintering (DMLS) and Electron Beam Melting. Project included researching different machines, contacting suppliers, presenting to upper level management and engineers, setting up meetings, and touring Oak Ridge National Labs.Analysis of the microstructure of DMLS parts. Microstructure of samples created on different machines was analyzed to determine which DMLS machines created the highest quality samples. Also, study was conducted to determine the differences in microstructure between samples that went through post process heat treatment and samples that didn'tExperience using Keyence VHX-2000 digital microscope to investigate the integrity of 8 braze joints on 40 fuel nozzles. Parts were run through Low Cycle Fatigue testing and analyzed to determine if any hairline fractures appeared.
