I graduated from the University of Auckland, in New Zealand, with a Master of Science in Forensic Science. My research focus was: The Behaviour/Effect of Base/Salt Precursors and Cutting Agents in the Manufacture of Methamphetamine (Using the HI Reduction Reaction). I researched various cutting agents and the effects these have on the methamphetamine manufacturing process, and their presence in by-products as potential methods to prove manufacture. The results of my research are being used by forensic scientists when presenting evidence in the judicial system. I have five years collective experience performing practical laboratory procedures in a variety of fields including forensics, anatomy/physiology, pharmacology/toxicology, and biochemistry. During the final year of my Master’s degree I independently conducted research and operated various instruments in a forensic capacity including: GCMS, FTIR, and HPLC/UPLC.My most recent job was working in the Ion Exchange Cellulose Unit at Thermo Fisher Scientific. In this position I was involved with manufacturing and analysing cellulose-based ion exchange resins; for their application in the biotechnology industry around the world.
