I transitioned from focusing on the production and development of optical epoxy to the development and improvement of a larger array of chemical subassemblies in production. I concentrated on the optimization and improvement of various processes as well as research and development into new procedures and chemical synthesis.-Designed a robust, cost-effective lab area to best utilize labware while providing the situational flexibility to test a large range of different chemicals, temperatures, pressures, and scales.-Used bench-top testing and statistical analysis to determine an alternative chemical formulation to nearly eliminate VOC emissions and reduce material costs for an essential chemical subassembly saving over $200,000 in cost avoidance by preventing the purchase and installation of a scrubber.-Developed rework procedures for products not meeting quality targets for metallic contamination saving $20,000 per procedure by eliminating associated scrap costs.-Completed an organic chemistry class to refresh my knowledge and better understand the chemical synthesis and mechanics behind my lab work.

The chemical production team needed a chemical production engineer to take an at-capacity critical subassembly to the next level by scaling and automating the process.-Responsible for the production and scale-up of optical epoxy and other chemical subassemblies to support business operations and growth by directly handling hazardous materials, equipment maintenance, and production scheduling.-Managed a $500,000 start-up for a new reactor system to produce optical epoxy by developing PFDs and P&IDs, specifying equipment and instrumentation, overseeing pipe and vessel installations, validating the process, and sequencing actuated valves.-Continuous improvements for process quality, yield, automation, and safety to reduce the manufacturing costs of optical epoxy by $50,000 per year.-Would troubleshoot production issues related to automation, quality, and processing by determining the root cause to prevent the same issues from reoccurring.-Documented and managed process changes, control plans, FMEAs, and quality issues.-Developed an analytical method to determine the cure rate of epoxy to quantify the effects of varying storage conditions.
