Responsible for all stages of firmware development including requirements, specification, implementation, testing and verification. Led development of firmware for a new generation of products.Design was focused on very low power due to the monitoring device being deployed inside of an animal where it remains for the lifetime of the animal. Core functionality including wireless communications is common to multiple products andcode was therefore designed in a modular way to allow re-use.Designed bootloader to allow monitoring device to be updated over the air.Developed firmware used in factory test jig, and also wrote PC software to run the factorytest. Also Wrote PC tools used for device configuration and testing.Involved in design of new communication protocol to increase data throughput and reducenetwork congestion.Setup SVN repository for firmware to maintain all source code under version control.

Involved in the full life cycle of embedded development including requirements, specification, implementation, testing and verification.Developed code for a number of Micros including Cortex M3, ARM7, MSP430, 8051 using C.Integration of RTOS into product.To allow maximum re-use across different platforms and products, firmware written to be modular and portable. Due to products generally being battery powered, firmware also needed to be very efficient so as to maximise battery lifetime.Development & implementation of algorithms including Heart Rate, Posture & Activity.Low Level Driver Development including I2C, SPI, ADC, UART, DMA.implementation of wireless technologies into products including Bluetooth Low Energy, Bluetooth, ISM, 802.15.4 and ANT.Vast experience of various wired communication technologies and protocols including RS232, RS485, USB, Ethernet and PPP.Designed communication protocol that has grown to be used over many different products and communications schemes including USB, RS232, Bluetooth and broadcast radio networks.Responsible for Selection of Microcontrollers and other major components for a number of products.Experience of using peripherals including Accelerometers, NAND Flash, NOR Flash, RTCExtensive use of version control systems including CVS and SVN.Involved in development of some PC test tools using C++ and C#.
