Profile bio

About Nick Collett

With several years experience of open innovation, technology scouting and working with start-ups in my portfolio, I am returning to my roots in Ferrari with a new role in transmission systems engineering, where precision and attention to detail drive success. However, after many years of working at the forefront of deep tech, I’m also offering my unique experience as a freelance consultant to Venture Capital firms and angel investors. My core strength lies in applying engineering principles to evaluate innovative technologies and help investors make informed decisions. With my dual experience in engineering and start-up environments, I provide strategic guidance, technical evaluations, and innovation insights to identify high-potential opportunities that drive value in today’s tech-driven markets.Coming from a family of aerospace engineers and educated at Imperial College, London, I spent the early part of my career designing and developing innovative racing transmissions. I was project leader for Ferrari’s revolutionary seamless-shift transmission, now common to every F1 car, but which was the first to win the FIA Formula One Constructors’ Championship. I then went on to manage the Innovation department at Scuderia Ferrari, with responsibility for the development of all mechanical design aspects of Ferrari’s F1 car, including chassis, suspension, brakes, clutch, and systems, as well as the engineering associated with various other car development tools. In this role, I was charged with fostering Innovation within the company and gathering new technologies, skills I brought with me when I accepted the challenge to join Ferrari's Sports Car division. The intervening years have been spent deep diving into the Automotive business and learning how the start-up ecosystem can provide the solutions we seek.

Listed skills include Transmission Design, Mechanism Design, Creative Problem Solving, Technical Project Leadership, and 11 others.
