Having worked in the education sector for over twenty years I know the importance of investing in young people. I worked with some of the most vulnerable people in society in both my SEND teacher and Safeguarding roles and know I made a positive difference to their lives. I have recently set myself a new challenge and am developing my own business - Mission: Wild Adventure, a holiday club for primary aged children that helps young people develop their teamwork, communication and problem solving skills through play. Having had a childhood of penknives, building dens, lighting campfires, climbing trees and playing independently, I wanted to pass these skills on and allow children those same opportunities that were afforded to me. As well as running events through the school holidays at Sandford School, Crediton I also work with schools to help children better manage the transition from Primary to Secondary School as well as running one-off special event days built around a PSHE theme that enable children to learn outside and away from the classroom. All involve an element of risk as I feel it is crucial for young people to learn how to take risks and succeed but also to occasionally experience failing.I have been a lecturer for over twenty years, teaching a vast array of topics, life skills, English, cooking, outdoor pursuits, science, history, horticulture and maths from Pre-Entry to GCSE level to name a few.I have specialised in SEND and behavioural management, coupling the knowledge I gained in my Psychology degree with experience both in and outside of the classroom and with dealing with a wide range of safeguarding issues.I also have particular skills in inclusion and enabling people with learning difficulties and disabilities to participate fully in activities along with everyone else.
