Supporting teaching and research in the School of Engineering and Materials Science.

In my post at LSBU, I ran the university's main mechanical engineering workshop. I was responsible for machining one-off and prototype parts and components using our HAAS VMC and Lathe. I Instructed and demonstrated to students and/or other interested parties the engineering capability, techniques and functionality of equipment within the mechanical engineering workshop.This included supervision of students using the full range of common workshop machine tools and related measuring equipment. The workshop is home to several milling machines, lathes, a precision surface grinder and all other common workshop machines.I liaised with students to offer design advice for projects and see tasks through from initial inception to completion. I also liaised fully and regularly with all members of the team and staff campus wide to provide services to other technical staff and to improve the overall learning experience for the department's students.Regular use of CAD/CAM software packages for design and post process.I created and administrated an innovative online support ticket service and bookings system at no costs to the organisation, utilising open source software.

Plan and execute maintenance for Novacem's Pilot Plant, used for developing a novel, carbon negative cement.Increase plant efficiency by improving servicing techniques, making one-off custom components and modifying existing equipment.Participate in and supervise technical alterations during plant scale-up.Digitise parts database and host on external server with http access. Administrate database using CMS, MySQL and other Open Source Software.Participate fully in all safety related areas including composition of all documentation and HAZOP audit participation.Operate the Pilot Plant and train new staff ensuring a safe and capable team.

Design, build, maintain and repair all undergraduate experimental apparatus across two laboratories in the Department of Chemical Engineering.Train students at all levels in the use of experimental and analytical apparatus.Work closely with academic, scientific and research staff to provide consultation and technical support on a wide range of research apparatus. Cited as Contributing Author for deep sea tube bundles research project.Implement laboratory policy including composition of all best practice, safety-related and students' laboratory notes documentation.Install services to laboratories including water supply, gas, air and compressed gas cylinder manifolds.Upgrade and improvement of UG experimental apparatus using modern electronics and data logging software.

Staff supervision and job allocation at a medium sized sheet metal fabrication workshop. Delegation of duties and preparation of technical drawings and operating instructions.Liaise with customers and process orders or agree specification.Manage workshop loading, materials inventory and consumables stock.Factory Keyholder responsibilities.

Water and air pumping equipment maintenance and repair. Face to face sales and advice to the general public.
