Process Engineering Intern
At AMETEK, I interned at Aegis, a subsidiary under the Aerospace and Defense division. Throughout my internship, I worked on a variety of processes, including:- Manufacturing surface mounts, critical pieces in the navigation system of the U.S. Patriot Missile- Optimizing the quality of the electroless nickel plating tanks on-site through X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) analysis- Developing a method to identify the material of incoming F-15 pins through XRF analysis- Data collection and analysis to determine the water quality in the manufacturing plant and our electro-cleaner tanks in the plating facilityAll of these projects allowed me to grow my skills as an engineer while also looking at the economics and business side of a manufacturing process. Working on these projects, I developed skills in the following areas:- Microsoft Excel: Data analysis, visualization, and functions- Memo-style writing: Developed a memo reports that recapped each project- Lab analysis techniques: Performed titrations and quality tests in a lab environment-Plating and Manufacturing: Learned about the economics behind manufacturing, how a company becomes profitable through a process, and how AMETEK uses a process called plating to create cutting-edge aerospace and defense products.Overall, my experience at AMETEK was invaluable and I am so grateful to have had the opportunity
Nuclear Fuels And Materials Science Intern
My internship was extended and I continued to work with Dr. Kiyo Fujimoto on the manuscript for publication until the end of the calendar year.
Science Undergraduate Laboratory Internship (Suli) Program Intern
I interned under the SULI (Science Undergraduate Laboratory Internships) program for Dr. Kiyo Fujimoto, a full-time research scientist at Idaho National Laboratory. I worked directly with Dr. Fujimoto on an ongoing project focusing on the development of advanced temperature sensors for nuclear technology. While on-site, I directed the synthesis process for additive manufacturing feedstock (bi-metallic nanoparticles) and characterized the synthesized nanoparticle systems in terms of elemental composition and melting point. This was completed through a method known as the Polyol synthesis method for nanoparticle development. Eventually, the synthesized feedstock will be used in additive manufacturing to develop state-of-the-art temperature sensors known as melt wires, which can withstand nuclear environments. I ended the internship by writing a report and presenting the status of the project to the Advanced Sensors and Instrumentation Research Group. The goal of the project is to produce melt wires reliably and to use them in nuclear systems for temperature detectionAt Idaho National Laboratory, I learned how to use multiple pieces of lab equipment, including:- X-Ray Fluorescence Spectrometry: Used to determine the elemental composition of the synthesized nanoparticles- Scanning Electron Microscope: Used to gain an understanding of the structure of the synthesized nanoparticles- Direct Scanning Calorimetry (DCS)/Thermal Gravimetric Analysis (TGA): Used to determine the melting point and integrity of the synthesized nanoparticles- Glove Box: Inert environment- Centrifuge: Separation of solvent from nanoparticle alloys- Microsoft Excel/PowerPoint: Analyze nanoparticle composition data/create a poster presentation
Instore Shopper
I used technology provided by Amazon Web Services in order to prepare and package customer orders for delivery and pick up. I worked with other staff members to coordinate the most efficient strategy to fulfill orders and built customer service skills through working with customers to best complete their order.
Summer Camp Counselor
I worked with children between the ages of 4 and 12 at a summer day camp in Medway. I collaborated with families to provide the best support for their children and fostered an inclusive and positive environment for children to thrive.
