The primary litigation-support practice areas included defense of: (1) first-party insurance claims, provided to clients such as State Farm and Fred Loya; (2) healthcare liability and qui tam claims, provided to doctors and professional associations; (3) catastrophic personal injury claims, provided to trucking companies, Greyhound Lines, Inc., and small businesses; and (4) premises liability claims, provided to HEB and Sears. The litigation-support practice consisted of (1) researching complex procedural and substantive issues in order to craft litigation strategy; (2) advising trial counsel on error preservation and percolating legal issues; (3) preparing pre-trial motions for summary judgment, to admit or exclude evidence, and to admit or exclude expert testimony in state (Robinson) and federal (Daubert) courts; (4) preparing draft jury charges and trial briefs; and (5) preparing post-judgment motions (and responses to motions) for entry of judgment, new trial, and JNOV.The appellate practice embraced all of the firm's defensive litigation, including the preparation of appellate briefs and presentation of oral argument in direct and interlocutory appeals and mandamus proceedings. Additionally, the appellate practice included "outside" appeals involving commercial disputes such as the representation of a financing company in an oil and gas royalty dispute and a borrower in a banking dispute.
