Nick has over 10 years international experience as a Passive Acoustic Monitoring Technician and Marine Mammal Observer, providing expertise to a variety of clients in the seismic, renewable and industrial noise monitoring markets. These include 4D, 3D, 2D, VSP, Ocean Bottom Cable (OBC) seismic surveys, wind farm pile driving events and industrial noise monitoring (Acoustic Profiling)As a lead operator and technician, Nick liases on a regular basis with seismic and maritime crew, client representatives, project managers and governing agencies to implement seismic survey mitigation measures and soft start/ramp-up procedures and protected species observations. Nick specializes in accurate acoustic and visual identification of marine mammals, sea turtle species, behavioral observations and distance verification in compliance with JNCC or international legislation. Nick was a freelance MMO/PAMS Technician for 7 years, before taking up a position at Gardline Environmental Ltd for 4 years and has gained extensive experience with the installation of PAMS across a wide variety or platforms, (seismic vessels, barges, RIBs/Zodiacs, WindCats and FPSOs) as well as the pre-job design of hardware and software elements. Also through his work with autonomous recorders, he has gained much experience in the deployment of static oceanographic equipment packages, mooring design, construction, and deployment in the field. Further to the in-field operation of acoustic equipment Nick has gathered extensive experience of design, construction, operation, troubleshooting (both in the field and offering remote support to field staff) repair and development of Gardline’s own PAM system as well as equipment sourced from Vanishing Point, Seiche Measurements Ltd, Ecologic, New Leap, Reson, Wildlife Acoustics, Chelonia (CPODS), National Physical Laboratory and Loughborough University.
