In this role I'm responsible for best practice in design, deployment, maintenance and currency of Brightwave's proprietary courseware engines and for the selection and deployment of third party authoring tools. This includes all aspects of Brightwave's approach to and execution of content integration.I collaborate closely with the Head of Technical Development and the Heads of Production to ensure that both programmers/developers and content integrators are used efficiently and effectively throughout the Solutions side of Brightwave. I also advise on and support training, development and recruitment needs in these areas.

At Brightwave I manage a team of elearning content developers and integrators. This team builds elearning courses using a range of technologies and tools including Flash, HTML5, Captivate, Articulate and Lectora.Our elearning solutions often require us to customize these tools to create hybrid versions that still offer the ease of use and maintainability together with enhanced interactions, LMS tracking functionality, Accessibility features etc.I also provide consultancy and capability support to clients in their use of authoring tools such as these.

As the leader of the Flash development team I was responsible for line managing, supporting and appraising the performance of all members of the team. When a new e-learning project came into production, I would assign a suitable Lead Developer from the team to oversee it and to take on the majority of the required development work. I would share projects between the Lead Developers and myself. In my role as Lead Developer I was directly responsible for ensuring that the projects I oversaw were feasible from a design and functionality point of view, that the correct tools were used to develop them, that the target platform could support the intended e-learning and that it could all be delivered within the number of developer days that the budget allowed. As the team leader I was also ultimately responsible for those Flash projects that I had assigned to others.As well as Flash development, I also have experience of tools such as Lectora, Captivate, Articulate and Flypaper. I have working knowledge of SCORM LMS intergration and Accessibilty support in elearning.

My role as senior developer saw me responsible for all technical issues concerned with a project from beginning to end. This included such things as deciding which technologies were used to develop and deliver the e-learning courseware, the actual programming/development of the courseware and coordination of others doing the same, overseeing testing and bug fixing and delivering/deploying the final course. I was also responsible for producing any technical documentation that was required during the development of the project and for any subsequent maintenance. Technologies used included: Authorware, HTML, JavaScript, Flash, SCORM.

Involved in the design of degree level control systems courseware specifically to support instrumentation and control engineering degree subjects. Key areas of responsibility included the use of Authorware to adapt text book based learning materials into CBT and to develop a range of computer based control systems simulations.

Member of the Computer Applications Group (CAG) responsible for the development of software simulations for testing plant process control modifications. The simulations were designed to run in real-time, mimicking precisely all the parameters, inputs and outputs involved in the plants' chemical processes. These simulations proved highly effective in providing technical staff with the opportunity to run numerous " What if?" scenarios with regard to production control and proved invaluable in the training programme for new process operators.
