I am a third year General Engineering student at Durham University, specialising in civil for the remainder of my MEng course. My primary area of interest is the design of transportation networks, especially applying measures to overcome unique environmental challenges.In 2nd year I was project manager for the L2 Design Project where I was tasked with leading a team in the full design of a tonearm for vinyl playback. This involved directing weekly progress meetings with supervisors and planning for the various deadlines, including a feasibility report, a general progress presentation and a final report, as well as taking on various design tasks throughout.I have recently finished the L3 Civil Design Project, in which I successfully designed a cycle bridge for a location along the banks of the River Tyne, near Newcastle. This involved extensive background research on the site, with special attention paid to using sustainable practices in design options. The final drawings were completed with AutoCAD, which were presented alongside the rest of the project findings in a report.I am grateful to have been given the opportunity to join an 8 week internship programme at Metis Consultants in Richmond, where I look forward to be working on projects and gaining experience in the everyday workings of a growing firm.
