Can we develop truly useful robots for the betterment of humanity? How can we make a robot that people can interact with naturally, without spending months training how to use it? Can truly intelligent robots co-exist with humans? These are just some of the questions I ask during my PhD with Professor Hiroshi Ishiguro at Osaka University. Before that I spent a year as a software developer for a fantastic wind turbine maintenance and inspection robot at BladeBUG Limited, and studied an MEng in Mechanical Engineering at Imperial College London. My Master's project investigated the problem of localisation of an arbitrarily sized swarm by applying large-scale probabilistic localisation methods to the swarm as a whole. My undergraduate group project involved development of a haptic feedback glove, alongside OpenCV tracking to detect its position. This was used to control a Cartesian robot developed by the other group members.I was the Projects Coordinator for Imperial College Robotics Society, in charge of competitions and robot building. I've built a team of football robots, an international sumo wrestling robot, organised competitions and lead an annual team entry into the Eurobot robotics competition. My role in the society also involved teaching an introductory robotics course.

Robotics Software EngineerBladebug Aug 2020 - Oct 2021United KingdomSoftware and hardware development for a wind turbine inspection robot. Led software design meetings and worked as a team in an agile startup environment. Tested new robot features such as localisation, surface scanning and fault inspection on a real wind turbine. -
Projects CoordinatorImperial College Robotics Society Sep 2018 - Aug 2020Organised a new inter-university robotics competition (sumobotrules.icrs.io). Ran several competition teams, and organised sponsorship and funding for these teams. Helped members with their own personal projects.Aided junior committee members with their roles, in particular the new lab manager during H&S audits and GDPR changes. -
Lab ManagerImperial College Robotics Society Sep 2017 - Aug 2018London, United KingdomManaged the ICRS lab space, including health and safety (COSHH forms, risk assessments etc.), as well as giving equipment safety inductions for 3d printers and the laser cutter to new ICRS members. -
Mechatronics Engineering InternBladebug Limited Jun 2019 - Sep 2019LondonDeveloped a laser-scan processing node using PCL (C++) and ROS, with a Hokuyo laser scanner to measure and predict surface normals of a wind turbine blade in real time. Tested the software on a real wind turbine blade with successful results. Set up EKF for odometry and IMU sensor fusion, in preparation for future autonomous localisation. Also worked with a small team to improve and develop the whole system controller structure, leading several meetings. Also generally worked on robot hardware and software issues.Helped run a stand at the Global Offshore Wind 2019 trade show on behalf of BladeBUG in order to gain interest from potential investors and industry partners. -
Software Developer InternMetaswitch Networks Jun 2018 - Aug 2018London, United KingdomDeveloped Python scripts to process technical configuration files and remove some security risks for Project Clearwater.Learnt to use version control with Git, CI with Jenkins, and the principles of working in an agile scrum team.
