Overall Job Purpose •Design, plan, deploy and support region wide IP Network, Carrier Ethernet network and related systems.Duties and Responsibilities •Primary responsibilities include engineering, deployment, and escalation support of the Routed IP, Carrier Ethernet backbone, and access networks with an emphasis on delivery of Ethernet based services. •Secondary responsibilities include engineering, deployment, and support of the LSN Wavelength and SONET based networks. •Interface with Operations as a mentor and technical lead in support of product delivery and troubleshooting. •Interface with additional engineering personnel to review current and planned infrastructure and collaborate on optimal ways to improve function. •Interface, review, and select key equipment vendors in support of product and network design. •Interface with product development and operations in the design and rollout of new LSN products. •Review, select, and integrate new tools to help manage and improve network engineering & operations. •Interface with content, IP transit and Ethernet NNI providers to best design and integrate LSN’s external network gateway connectivity. •Work within lab environment to proof out new design / implementation concepts, review new network equipment, and recreate escalation support issues. •Write and perform methods of procedure (MOP) activities for complex network re-arrangements. •This position will also provide third tier Operations support for trouble resolution and critical maintenance operations. •Key member in the development of network and service architectures, design standards and technical evaluations.

Install, maintain, provision, and operate a tier 2 multi-vendor (Cisco, Brocade, Alcatel/Lucent, Ciena, etc.) network focusing on Layer 2/3 data transport.- Network monitoring, network provisioning, trouble analysis, receiving and resolving trouble reports and administration of equipment. - Provision and troubleshoot Carrier Ethernet and IP services and equipment. - Interface with local and national telecommunications providers for the operation, administration, maintenance and provisioning of multiple types of circuits. - Work in an on-call role on a rotating basis with other NOC technicians. - Provide operations input for building and improving the Carrier Ethernet and IP networks. - Provide technical sales engineering support for the DCN sales staff. - Assure the highest quality network service is provided to the customer.

In addition to maintaining all current Network Operations Engineer duties, responsibilities include project management, scheduling, group decision making and project recommendations. Acting as a single point of contact towards my manager, department business is streamlined as all project and department details fall under my responsibility.

This position is responsible for maintaining all current equipment within the SRT telecommunications network as well as implementation of new equipment and technologies. Equipment includes Cisco Catalyst 4948 switches and 7613 routers, Zhone and Calix access shelves, Ciena (formerly Nortel) SONET transport equipment, Genband DMS, and Ericsson MTX.

Configured network management software to receive and obtain all network alarms. This includes configuring remote network devices for sending alarms to the management software or allow the polling of network status from management software. Tools were written and implemented to assist the Network Operations Center in determining root cause analysis of network outages. Reduce workload by automating repetitive tasks Network Operations Specialist were required to perform. Equipment involved includes UNIX/Linux, IBM Tivoli/Netcool, Monolith CoreITM.

Responsible for alarm monitoring and notification of responsible technicians to ensure maximum network performance and reduce outages to a minimum. Used historical alarm database to analyze network performance, predict potential network bottlenecks, and provide relevant statistics to Network Engineers for network planning. Equipment involved includes Linux, IBM Tivoli/Netcool, and various vendor OAM&P management systems.
