Coro FellowCoro Center For Civic Leadership Sep 2007 - May 2008- I rotated among placements with business, nonprofit, labor, government, and community leaders during the ten-month program. - The placements were varied: leading a team in the analysis of the social and economic issues confronting Maplewood, MO, a St. Louis suburb, and working with Maritz Inc. Neuro-Performance Division to develop strategies for improving workplace performance by fostering a positive emotional climate. - Beginning a new placement every four weeks taught me to focus on process rather than content since, although I felt the urge to become an expert, there wasn't enough time. Instead, we were trained to ask questions and listen to our colleagues explain how they did their jobs. In this way, we deciphered the organization's structure, the individual responsibilities of its key personnel, and the process by which they made their decisions.
