Fighting Irish Media - Communications Intern
Americas Digital Marketing Rookie
In my role I completed a summer-long project regarding the strategic use of athletes and influencers at Under Armour. During this project, I interviewed over 30 UA employees to understand current athlete/influencer usage and identify opportunities for cross-departmental collaboration and synergies. I also compiled, centralized, and analyzed metrics about athlete/influencer impact on social media performance for UA and its competitors. At the culmination of the summer, I presented my project insights and recommendations to over 45 coworkers.Throughout the summer I also mapped departmental creative requests against both delivered content and industry benchmarks for asset portfolio utilization, and audited marketing agency budget documents for consistency and accuracy.
Social Media Coordinator (Remote)
In my role as Social Media Coordinator, I was responsible for using CRM tools (HubSpot, Agorapulse) to manage the social media strategy for all client platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter. The graphics and captions were delivered to me, at which point I used digital reports of past social media posts to decide when these future posts should be scheduled, and how strategies should be implemented.
Marketing Intern
As an independent agency, BRK works with numerous clients in a variety of facets, from social media management to total rebrands to photography and videography. In my role, I worked extensively with the Digital Strategist to manage social media posts using CRM tools like HubSpot and Agorapulse. Moreover, I gained experience in account management, as I collaborated with the Account Executives and Account Coordinators to complete client projects under tight deadlines. Due to recent turnover within the company, I was fortunate enough to be able to wear many different hats, thereby getting a sense of how the company does business holistically and the importance of interdisciplinary communication across the company. My work throughout the summer prompted BRK to extend a remote, part-time offer to me to work more fully with their Digital Strategist in an expanded role as a Social Media Coordinator.
Server
As a server at CharBar No. 7, my job was to make the dining experience as enjoyable as possible, from the greeting of the customer to the time I brought them their check. Throughout the meal, I was responsible for making sure their food and drink orders arrived on time and error-free. I handled sections of 3-5 tables on any given night, which required me not only to multi-task but to stay organized in order to make sure all tables were being served equally. While I wasn't serving my own tables, I would bring other tables' food out from the kitchen and deliver drinks to other tables from the bar. At the end of any given night, my side work could include: rolling silverware, taking out trash, stocking dry supplies (straws, napkins, to-go boxes, etc), brewing tea, sweeping, and restocking sauces.
Men'S Varsity Lacrosse Team Manager
As one of the managers of the Men's Varsity Lacrosse Team, I helped prepare the practice field before players arrived by filling water bottles, stringing nets, laying out pylons, cleaning the sideline, and setting up the camera for practice film. Additionally, I assisted in game-day setup and operations, including camera work, water bottles, and field prep.
Travel Team Member - Nielseniq Project
In the Fall semester of my Sophomore year I was selected to be a part of a “travel team” of individuals in the Marketing division of SIBC working on a project for NielsenIQ. Our prompt dealt with some work Nielsen was doing with Oatly, the alternative oat milk brand, and how Oatly could grow their consumer base. The team presented our findings virtually to representatives from Nielsen in November.
Coach/Lifeguard/Dockhand
SouthTown Wake Park is a cable sports park in Rock Hill, SC. It features a fully automated cable system used to pull riders along the water as if they were behind a boat. Summer 2020 was my first season working there, and I performed a variety of tasks including: coaching new riders on a separate training cable, helping riders off the start dock on the main/full-speed cable, and organizing a kids’ week-long summer camp during three separate weeks during the summer. Additionally, I went through training to become lifeguard certified, and worked as a lifeguard on an inflatable water park that sits on a small lake on the property. Summer 2021 was my second summer working there, and my duties expanded to include operation of the main/full-speed cable.
Travel Team Member - Cramer Krasselt Project
In the Spring semester of my Freshman year I was selected to be a part of a “travel team” of individuals in the Marketing division of SIBC working on a project for Cramer Krasselt. Our prompt dealt with some work CK was doing with Porsche on some of Porsche’s marketing strategies. The team presented our findings virtually to representatives from CK in May.
Intern
During my time at ACL, I performed a variety of jobs. Having just moved into a new office space, I helped organize the building and perform inventory counts of over 1200 pairs of ACL branded gym shoes. I researched competitive cornhole board and scoreboard manufacturers. Most notably, I headed a project to create a formatting and marketing plan for an ACL National High School Championships event, which the ACL currently does not offer. Upon completion of this project I delivered a presentation to several key members of the organization including the CEO and COO.
Travel Team Member - Orlando Magic Project
In the Fall semester of my Freshman year I was selected to be a part of a “travel team” of individuals in the Marketing division of SIBC working on a project for the Orlando Magic. Our prompt dealt with possible partnerships for the Magic in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, with a focus on how the organization could capitalize on the growth of industries like personal care products (hand sanitizer especially). The team presented our findings virtually to representatives from the Magic in November.
Cashier
At McAlister's I primarily served as a cashier and food runner. I most frequently worked on Tuesday nights, which are the very popular Kids Eat Free nights - I was thus usually on the move during most of my shift, taking orders and running them out to customers’ tables. I enjoyed working on my people-skills, and I found that I looked forward to the opportunity to work with a customer, especially at the register. As part of my side-work duties, I would buss tables, wash dishes, sweep the floors, clean the bathrooms, and refill food and condiment containers in the kitchen and the front of the restaurant.
