Head of Finance & Senior Accounting Officer (SAO), the senior Finance position within The Encon Group and part of the Senior Leadership Team that led the group through signifcant growth post MBO.The Encon Group comprised 4 active trading companies primarily specialising in the Distribution of Insulation, Drywall, Ceilings, and related building products, with subsidiaries also involved in Contracting and Manufacturing.Privately owned following an MBO from Wolseley Plc in 2011.For the year ending 31 Jul 22, group turnover was £309m delivering an EBIT of £17.4m. Balance Sheet Net Asset Value was £27.6m. The group employed 659 people operating from 25 locations across the UK.The finance team under my charge comprised 20 employees covering Financial and Management Accounting, Treasury, Commercial Finance and Accounts Payable.During my time as Head of Finance I implemented and upgraded several new finance and related systems, to improve our reporting abilities and transactional efficiencies. These included new Business Intelligence systems; new management accounting reports; and a new workflow and document management system allowing AP, AR and Accounting teams to go paperless. These systems connected Head Office to the branches, improving communication and workflow between them. This proved vital during the COVID lockdowns as the finance functions and processes could continue to operate remotely.Main point of contact for annual Audits with PwC and latterly BDO. Responsible for all statutory and compliance events including Annual Accounts, Corporation Tax, VAT and PAYE.Finance Lead for the successful sale of PFC Corofil in 2021.Finance Lead for repayment and refinancing deals of £19m loan and £40m receivables financing agreement respectively.

Principally responsible for 4 areas within The Encon Group (Encon Insulation & Nevill Long):- Marketing- Market & Business Analysis- Business Intelligence and Systems development- Quality Systems & Process management

Responsible for a full regional set of Management Accounts (5 branches), and all cost of sale accounting across the company, including rebates, price support and discounts.Moved the calculation and handling of all these deferred discounts onto the ERP system, allowing for greater accuracy and visibility of claims. Along with the implementation of a new Business Intelligence system, this enabled full end-to-end gross margin visibility through any dimension (e.g. customer/product etc) - an industry first.Created on and off system pricing tools to allow sales people to price for a profit with all components included.Collectively these measures had a significant positive impact on reducing the amount of low margin or loss making business and improving overall gross margins, at a time when the construction industry and economy were going through the global financial crisis.

Managing Director of PFC Corofil (Pre-Formed Components Ltd), a leading UK manufacturer of passive fire protection products and subsidiary within The Encon Group. > Led the development and implementation of a new strategy, significantly increasing turnover and turning a loss making position into one of sustainable profitability.> Undertook a deep dive review of product and service offering to guide and underpin the new strategy> Re-structured team to focus on customer service and technical expertise> Gained an understanding of the key regulatory and technical matters in order to ensure legal and regulatory compliance in an industry with a high focus on such matters> PFC's new strategy continued to deliver and for the y/e July 21 turnover had reached £7.7m delivering an Operating Profit of £1.5m. In Dec 2021 PFC Corofil was acquired by Tenmat, a project for which I acted as The Encon Group's finance lead.
