    Working with prisoners on a day-to-day basis in a busy and often volatile environment, I was involved in the supervision and management of prisoners and, when required, acted as Wing Supervising Officer managing the staff and running of the wing, ensuring that the safety of the wing staff was maintained at all times. I regularly used my interpersonal, decision-making and negotiating skills to resolve varying issues that arose and often to de-escalate potentially violent and dangerous situations. My calmness under pressure, focus and ability to communicate meant that I quickly became a crucial member of the prison team.As the role developed, and having completed an NVQ Level 3 in Custodial Care whilst working full-time, I became the Security Liaison Officer, working across the prison to help to reduce violence within the establishment and to try to prevent the use of illegal items entering and being used. I am a fully trained de-briefer and mediator and have been deployed to numerous establishments to interview and extract sensitive information from prisoners to maintain the security and safety of those establishments.My time within the prison has taught me a great deal, and rapidly enhanced my experience in dealing with a wide range of characters, from senior and junior colleagues, high-ranking officials and prisoners from a variety of backgrounds.
