I started out working on a customer facing web system. We used Java for the back-end, and JSP/Javascript for the front-end. The system handled login/registration, payments, and various data access. It used GWT for the front-end, Java for the back-end. After that I moved to a different web system (a rewrite of something else); still GWT and Java. This is more of a cloud-based system for the client side with a Java back-end on a single server. It's a different architecture and provides for a lot of unique challenges trying to fit it all together efficiently and securely.With all 3 major systems I've worked with, customer support for issues has been a significant portion of my responsibilities. Have to be able to change gears quickly to respond to time sensitive issues.As I've grown more knowledgeable of the system, I have taken on more of a mentor role, both within the team for developers and external to the team to help with requirements and design. My first job! In-house web system development for student loan management. We used Java for the back-end, JSP and Javascript for the client. The database and server ran on AS/400 platform (which had its challenges!). I was able to jump right in, starting with simple bugfixes/support, working my way up to full stack development of new features. We also did daily customer support for issues, and after-hours support as needed.
