On call on an approximate 1 in 4 week rotation, as Emergency Response Advisor, providing support and guidance to the BP Shipping IC, BST leader, IMT and BST; ensuring that BP Shipping discharge their key objectives of no harm to people, no harm to the environment and no harm to property. Additionally, on call 24/7 as the Alternate Company Security Officer of BP Shipping, responding to security queries and alerts from the BP operated fleet on a global basis. On a day to day basis responsibilities include acting as the Shipping SME for Oil Spill Preparedness and Response, developing response and security plans, engaging with group networks in both Emergency Response and Security and developing strong working relationships with external bodies providing support to BP (e.g. the Response Information Centre and security contractors).

Contingency Planning - Part of a team of consultants within OSRL responsible for delivery of oil spill contingency plans globally. Development includes review of existing plans, assessment of an organisation’s oil spill response capability and other services to meet International best practice, local legislation and the client’s needs. Experience has been gained in both offshore and onshore operations, onshore processing facilities, harbours and the production of corporate documents.Risk Assessment and Capability Reviews - Conducted a number of review of a wide range of operations from offshore installations to onshore power stations. Qualitatively assessing the risk for oil handling operations, auditing oil spill response capability and making subsequent recommendations to ensure capabilities are commensurate to the risk faced.Oil Spill Modelling - A proficient user of the OSIS oil spill modelling software, I have managed numerous projects for a variety of client’s producing oil spill trajectory and stochastic spill reports.Training - Delivery of response training and workshops on a global basis including 1 month seconded to an oil major providing fast river response and boom training.Operations and Response - I have attended a number of different spills throughout the world, including a tanker incident in the Singapore Strait where I commanded one of the response vessels over a two week period, a three week inland response in Gabon and a 3 week period in the USA. Whilst in the Operations department I was also a member of a Rapid Response Team for an oil major, taking part in a major exercise in Angola.

Navigation officer onboard a Royal Navy Supply vessels - tanker operations mainlyIn addition to 8 hours of bridge Watchkeeping, other responsibilities included:Cargo Officer: Responsible for the overseeing of loading / discharging operations whilst in port and whilst engaged in underway replenishmentVisit Liaison Officer: Working with the Royal Marine Security Officer ensuring the safe travel of personnel both military and civilian in foreign ports of call. Officer of the Quarter: Responsible for the management of all ship use ordnance onboard. Issuing and ordering.Public Relations / Media Officer: Escorting and controlling embedded media teams, arraigning PR opportunities as required. Dealing with requests from the press and all groups affiliated to the vessel.Chart Correction Officer:Maintaining the vessels portfolios of charts with weekly Notices to Mariners corrections from the Hydrographical Office.Point Defense Officer:Responsible for the defense of the ship, controlling all weaponry held and personnel assigned to the gunnery teams. Developing a surface picture of imminent treats and ordering actions to reduce the threat.
