I worked on the C.W. Bill Young Regional Reservoir Renovation Project as a lead field inspector. I was responsible for ensuring that all field operations were following the contractual plans and specifications. I also ensured that all required hold points were followed, documented, and signed off properly for my area(s) of oversight. In my position, I had daily correspondence and interaction with the owner's representative, CH2M Hill. For the better part of this job, I spent a lot of time working with the mass grading operations. I was exposed to soil classifications and the various characteristics of the material on site. When it came to repairing the interior slopes of the existing dam, I was responsible for coordinating the required testing involved in this process. Very quickly, I became accustomed to working around and understanding a nuclear density gauge, interpreting proctor information, and understanding how soil acts under different circumstances.I also worked directly with the soil-cement crews on one of the night shift operations. I was responsible for two individual inspectors on two separate headings of the project. I ensured that they were properly inspecting all areas of placement, in order to verify that the material was being placed within tolerance. I also managed all required testing (i.e. material sampling, nuclear density tests), and real-time adjustments to the moisture content of the soil stockpile feeding the batch plant.
  • Kiewit
    Estimator
    Kiewit Aug 2011 - Nov 2013
    Tampa/St. Petersburg, Florida Area
I spent time in the Tampa Area estimating office working on heavy civil and infrastructure estimates in the range of approximately $50M to over $150M. My experience lies in the drainage scope of the majority of these estimates. I completed quantity and specification takeoffs, means and methods for building the work, past cost research to price work accordingly, and solicited quotes from subcontractors. Prior to its commencement, I worked on pre-planning for the C.W. Bill Young Regional Reservoir Renovation Project. For about four months, I spent time in Fort Worth, TX working on a $1.5B estimate for a heavy highway job in Houston, TX. I was involved in the right-of-way (ROW) scope of the estimate and utilized Microstation on a daily basis. I also spent time working on the indirects with one of the other estimators on the team.
  • Kiewit (Lpv-145 Chalmette Levee Loop Project)
    Quality Control Engineer
Kiewit (Lpv-145 Chalmette Levee Loop Project) Mar 2011 - Aug 2011
    Greater New Orleans Area
As a QC engineer, I was responsible for document control of construction operations and project closeout. Each day, I completed a job site daily report for all field operations which included reports from engineers, superintendents, and management personnel. This was then submitted to the owner (USACE). I also completed RFI's, Submittals, and Transmittals. As part of the project closeout process, I conducted internal reviews of all quality control documentation and punch list items. I also handled QC correspondence with the USACE.
  • Kiewit (Lpv-145 Chalmette Levee Loop Project)
    Grading/Piling/Structures Field Engineer
Kiewit (Lpv-145 Chalmette Levee Loop Project) Jan 2010 - Mar 2011
    Greater New Orleans Area
I began this project working with the grading group in charge of coordinating material procurement with multiple suppliers for construction of our job site access roads. I spent ample time in the field working with the superintendents and foremen understanding how to build the work. Office work consisted of daily reports, managing detailed spreadsheets which captured all facets of the access road construction, and developing work plans for the crews. I was also responsible for completing and submitting weekly/monthly payforms for these material suppliers.I then transitioned into the piling department, where I took over for the sheet piling engineer. Office work went hand-in-hand with time spent in the field. In the office, I completed daily reports, trend charts, tracking spreadsheets, 4 week schedules, and detailed work plans. I also evaluated daily timecards, claimed daily/weekly quantities, and reviewed labor cost distribution reports. In the field, I performed survey layout for installation of the sheet pile and supported the superintendents and foremen as needed. As the sheet piling operation wrapped up, I began working with the structures group. In the office, I spent time updating trend charts and tracking spreadsheets, claiming quantities, and completing daily reports. I was also responsible for verifying daily timecards which included coordinating with the equipment department to ensure equipment hours were coded accurately. In the field, I conducted daily field inspections of rebar and formwork as part of our pre-pour checklists. I also made sure concrete pours were cured properly and met the required specifications. Working hand-in-hand with the crews, I led morning toolbox meetings and took part in job site safety tours.
  • Pizzagalli Construction Company
Intern (Office Engineer & Ast. Field Engineer)
Pizzagalli Construction Company May 2008 - Aug 2008
    Lilburn, Ga
For the first month and a half of my internship, I worked in the field with one of Pizzagalli's surveying crews. I had just recently completed a surveying course at Western Carolina which was a benefit to my work. Over the course of my time in the field, I proficiently learned how to operate a level, the Total Station and the GPS. I also learned how to set up a backsight to sight in the instruments. I used both the Total Station and the GPS to stake out points for excavations and layout of foundations. Over the course of my time in the field, I became very familiar with reading plans. During my time in the office, I learned how to put together purchase orders, local purchase orders, how to make a change order, and also how to do an RFI through Primavera. I also worked closely with one of the project managers performing minor take-offs and updating O&M manuals. Each week, I would attend the weekly schedule meeting with the project management staff. My main project was the signage for the Odor Control Facility located next to the two 20 million gallon storage tanks. I spent time calling vendors to obtain quotes and also made a site visit to a previously completed treatment plant to gather information on their signage.
