I have done and learned many things throughout my professional life, continually driven by the knowledge that while I have a lot to teach, I have even more to learn. My personal principles are: Superior Practices - People like to use the term "best practices", but to me this simply signifies common thinking. In my experience, uncommon practices lead to uncommon results. By tailoring our practices to the unique situations and stakeholders we encounter, we can achieve outcomes that are in line with reality and truly serve the interests of those involved. This is not the easy path, but I have found it is one that leads to achievement. Make It Taste Like Ice Cream - We build systems, processes, products, relationships, and projects every day. If we allow any the things we build to be ordinary how can we be proud of them? I approach everything I do with a critical eye in the hopes I can make it functional, accessible, and beautiful. Create a Network of Capability - As a rising tide lifts all boats, our teams and our organizations can only be successful if everyone participating benefits from their actions. To me true leadership lies in the ability to understand and empathize with the people I work alongside, and to leverage the participation of everyone in ways that appreciate who they are what what they have to offerThe Power of Discernment - Discernment comes from lifelong experience and the continual accumulation of knowledge, which leads to true understanding. It’s a well worn cliche that in every problem lies an opportunity - instead of simply seeking temporary leverage, I try instead to confront the reasons behind why we're faced with each challenge, exploring their root causes instead of just their surface effects. Fun & Wonder - We spend a big portion of our lives working, and when we're unable to find joy in what we do every day this can have an incalculable impact on our spirit and mental health over time. I seek to bring a little fun and wonder into everything I do, doing my best to build, create, and interact with others with this principle close to mind.
