I have two decades of programming experience, and one decade of industry experience, including working at Meta as an engineer & engineering manager from 2014 to 2023. I've been managing teams of software engineers since early 2019. At Meta I specialized in videos/creation infrastructure while managing an organization of 3 teams.I started at Figma as an Engineering Manager on March 27th, 2023. I support the Rendering & Animation team. We are graphics experts building the web browser rendering technology that powers Figma and FigJam. We enable fast editing and viewing of the canvas even during updates from other users, or while zooming and panning around.I also support the Mobile Platform team building the client infrastructure for all mobile apps at Figma. These apps are used to access Figma features on-the-go, especially asynchronous collaboration and conversation on your design files. Mobile is also used to "mirror" the design from desktop so designers can see how their mobile UIs will look & interact in realtime.---My approach to leadership is empathy, ethics, consistency and transparency. I aim to balance the top-down needs of the business with the bottom-up creativity, passion and initiative of my team members. I balance protecting my team's limited time with guiding them to accomplish more results. I'll always focus on productive happy people and impactful meaningful projects. I prefer to take a people-centric approach where projects are filtered and tuned to employees' motivations and interests. I love the feeling when I've helped connect someone with work they are truly passionate about.Technology is a complex world and we need to navigate it responsibly. It has great potential for good and for evil, but like any tool, the results comes down to how we use it. It's a reflection of our humanity. I tend to be naturally suspicious of over-hyped areas (crypto, AI, etc) but also look for the core value-add for society and consumers. I love nature, the outdoors, and the wilderness. I respect the mountains where I live in the Pacific Northwest. I believe in balancing nature with technology in sustainable ways and striving for that holistic humanitarian approach. I am interested in how we can better live in harmony. Good design can help make our tech be less of a barrier between us and the world and more of a conduit between.
