About Nick Skinner

I help organisations to tell their stories through video. I can either make videos - or train you to make your own. I do this through my production company, Rough Cut Media Ltd.I'm using skills and contacts built up during a long career at the BBC. I was a producer, director and series producer, working on shows like Crimewatch, Antiques Roadshow and X-Ray. I've made documentaries, news programmes and current affairs programmes, and won a Bafta Cymru. My Company now offers video production and training services. I will be using the skills I developed in prime-time TV - script-writing, camera-work, lighting, directing and editing - to make sure organisations really get their messages across in video. The skills I learned running social media campaigns will also help you place your videos. It's not just about great shots and fancy cameras - though I offer all that. It's about the structure of your film, the performance of the presenters, the way pictures, music and words work together to make a really strong video. It's about telling a story in the unique medium of video. If you want to tell your story through videos you make yourself on mobile phones, I can offer help, advice, training and mentoring. I can show you the best apps fore editing and special effects, and how to frame and light interviews. This will make sure you are really hitting the mark with your videos.I also teach post-graduate students at Cardiff University's prestigious school of journalism the practical skills they need to make great films. I also offer private coaching and have run courses for organisations like the National Film and Television School, the Federation of Small Businesses and Clockwise Offices. As well as producing, directing and leading teams in broadcast media I was BBC Wales Technology Innovation Lead - so I have an in depth knowledge of the technology used in film-making. I have also worked as a radio producer, a senior broadcast journalist and a newspaper journalist.
