Nick has been a lighting engineer all of his working life and has more than 35 years of experience in the design, improvement, and maintenance of most lighting disciplines. He learned lighting in the theatre and worked in the concert lighting industry, interior lighting, and emergency lighting for a brief spell before starting his career in exterior lighting at Hertfordshire County Council and later at Mouchel and Scott Wilson.Nick now concentrates on Road Lighting, Exterior Lighting, and Sports Lighting Projects.Nick is probably best known in the lighting industry for the training courses for Lighting Reality and many other training courses and papers presented to the industry at the regional and national levels.Nick is a Fellow of the ILP, a past Chairman of the ILP Midland region, a member of the ILP Technical Committee, a former Technical Director of Lighting Reality, and full time Managing Director and Lighting Engineer of his own lighting design and training consultancy, Nick Smith Associates Ltd. Nick also sits on EL/1/2 Road Lighting, which prepares BS5489, and European standards committee CEN/TC169/WG12, which is involved in the preparation of EN13201.
