Chief Sohyda has served in numerous leadership roles in both volunteer and career fire service organizations throughout his thirty plus years fire service career. In addition to serving as the fire chief of the Mt. Lebanon Fire Department, an Internationally Accredited, ISO Class I fire department, since 2006, he has provided fire service management and consulting services for the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development Governor’s Center for Local Government Services and his own consulting and training company, FAST ATTACK, LLC. Chief Sohyda’s body of work has focused on Act 47 Early Intervention Plans, Act 47 Recovery Plans, Management Audits, Consolidation, Strategic Planning, and Service Delivery. Chief Sohyda holds an Associate’s Degree in Fire Science Technology from the University of Cincinnati and a Bachelor's Degree in Fire Administration from the Empire State College, in addition to being a graduate of the National Fire Academy’s Executive Fire Officer Program and a credential Chief Fire Officer through the Commission on Professional Credentialing. Chief Sohyda is certified as a Fire Fighter II, Fire Officer IV, Fire Instructor II, Incident Safety Officer, Health & Safety Officer, Fire Inspector, and Fire & Life Safety Educator by the National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications. Chief Sohyda currently serves as the chairperson of the NFPA 1720 Technical Committee, Standard for the Organization and Deployment of Fire Suppression, Emergency Medical Operations, and Special Operations to the Public by Volunteer Fire Departments.
