• As a Health Services Assistant and Health Education Assistant I in the Health Promotion branch, and subsequently the Tobacco Retail Licensing program, I was primarily in charge of the youth decoy program. Responsibilities consisted of recruitment of decoys during presentations to youth groups, training decoys, conducting “sting” operations of Riverside County merchants who sell tobacco or tobacco paraphernalia, data entry, filing, statistics, handling incentives for decoys, handling money for decoy operations, and all the various coordination that involves the decoy program.• Development of all the educational material used for the training of the decoys used in “sting” operations• The Health Education Assistant I duties also extend to other facets of the Tobacco Retail Licensing program. These duties include: Merchant education on a one to one basis, in the office, as well as at the job site, store compliance checks, notices of violation, data entry, filing, and communicating with tobacco merchants.Through the decoy program we found over 50% out of compliance the first time through and generated over $250k in revenue through fines.

Responsible for overseeing the 3rd District Board of Supervisor's Youth Advisory Council (YAC). This group's function is to get involved with the community and voice youth-related issues to the Board of Supervisors. Was involved in numerous community service activities and helped to organize youth sponsored events on a regular basis. Helped organize meetings and correspondence with several county departments officials. Through the job responsibilities I was exposed to the workings of county government and many of its legislative processes. Attributes of the job included a need for organizational and planning skills, as well as excellent written and verbal skills.
