With registration and tax forms for both income tax and sales tax, I have learned how to gather the information needed to properly and effectively manage my business expenses.This experience has been tough, as a full-time student and new business owner, I was learning how to run a business in school, while simultaneously applying my knowledge after class to my growing business. It was also around this time that I realized I had to develop my own accounting management system in Microsoft Excel. I found that the management systems I tried using were not necessary and overly complex. So, I learned how to build excel charts, tables, formulas, and interconnected, self-populating spreadsheets through research and an MIS course at Penn State.The main spreadsheet I developed is always a work in progress, but it has facilitated my ability to pay business taxes on-time, track P&L, and function as my customer relationship management (CRM) system.While there is much more that this business has taught me, those aspects have been the most crucial to my development as a professional in the workplace.
