EngineerAcacia Research Group Llc Feb 2013 - Feb 2016New York, New York, UsInternal Tool Developer covering a wide variety of languages. Initially, my job focused on debugging internal tools and patent analysis. Currently my duties fall into two categories: Removing manual processes with automation and improving data infrastructure to make data more readily accessible.Debugging: When I first started working at Acacia Research, they had a large list of issues that needed to be fixed with their tools. These were all documented on our bug tracking system: JIRA. A great deal of my time was spent fixing these issues, committing the fixes to version control (tortoise SVN), and re-deploying the new solution after an update. After each bug fix, I would provide a detailed entry on JIRA explaining what the fix was, the rationale for fixing it the way it was done, test cases that were used to confirm it was working, and the new SVN version that has the fixed version.Automation: One of my biggest roles is to find large repetitive tasks that can be automated. This can range from smaller projects such as an auto hot key script to constantly send key commands, to larger projects like an excel document that provides forms for user input and will generate large templates based on that data using VBA. Some of the largest tools are written in java and C# and use regular expressions to parse web data and generate visual representations of the data in Visio.Data Infrastructure: Secondary to my role of automation, would be maintaining and improving data infrastructure. This includes maintaining MySQL and MSSQL tables, writing triggers and stored procedures to insure data integrity, as well as creating quick on the fly inline formulas/VBA code to merge multiple excel docs into a single complete extract that can be moved to the DB.Languages used: Java (J2EE), C#, VBA, Ruby, PHP, MySQL, MSSql, HTML, CSS. -

Another one of my roles was to help maintain the computers in the lab. This entailed performing system/application installs and updates, upgrading hardware components, and cleaning the lab. -
Software Engineering Summer InternDps Telecom Jun 2010 - Sep 2012Fresno, Ca, UsInitially I started in their production department placing motherboards into their chassis. This work occasionally required testing hardware components and packaging the units for shipping.I was then later moved into the engineering department were I worked developing internal tools to test hardware components of the NetGuardian platform. These were relatively simple programs written in PHP that would stress test certain components to see what their limits where (for an example one script would send packet data through each of the Ethernet ports at pre-determined rates, and capture fail rates). While creating these tools, I worked with TCP, UDP, and VOIP protocols. My last year at DPS Telecom, I worked with a team of engineers to develop and debug the NetGuardian web interface. This required using a combination of HTML, CSS, and the Dojo Toolkit (a web development toolkit designed to make certain tasks easier, such as AJAX). While debugging, I learned to use the IE and Firefox browsers help debug compatibility issues, and the Firefox add-on Firebug to find issues with AJAX requests.Languages used: PHP, HTML, CSS, AJAX
